Students in the M.A. program declare an area of specialization from the list below. A specialization may also be designed in accordance with the student’s background and interests.

Each specialization area has defined a course in which each student must produce a "substantial paper involving significant independent study."
A written comprehensive exam near the end of the coursework is required for those students not completing a thesis.
