This option is designed for students seeking teacher certification in physical education at the elementary and secondary school levels. The curriculum allows a broad exploration of subject area, but is flexible enough to provide additional areas of study in teaching, coaching, athletic training, and endorsement in adapted physical education. Completion of the NCATE-approved certification program fulfills the requirement for teacher certification in the state of Rhode Island and in 34 additional states.
For those who may be interested in non-teaching careers within the health fitness industry such as corporate fitness, exercise science, strength training, and cardiac rehabilitation, the Physical Education curriculum offers the Health Fitness, Exercise Science, and General options.
Students interested in undergraduate teacher education programs are required to apply for admission to the Office of Teacher Education. Applications for admission to teacher education programs are normally submitted during the sophomore year.
