South Kingston Cares coordinates all the volunteers in the South
Kingston schools. We run a mentoring program for grades 1-8 and an e-mentoring
program in the high school. We also run homework clubs in the elementary and
middle schools and a college and career center in the high school. |

Head Start is a federally funded program, which offers a wide
range of services to low income children (ages 3-5) and their families.
Comprehensive services include: health, nutrition, social services, education
and opportunities for parent involvement. Children attend home and center based
programs while family service workers provide home visiting services to partner
with families and provide them with appropriate support and referrals to help
families increase their self-sufficiency. Woonsocket Head Start currently
services 242 children. Our program year runs from September to June. |

The United States Marshals Service and Immigration utilizes the
facility for individuals arrested for immigrations violations and federal crimes
awaiting trail/hearing. Approximately 350 males are currently detained at this
facility. An expansion is currently underway to almost double that number in
late 2006. Social services, educational and religious programs are available to
the detainee population. |
