Dr. Jing Jian Xiao is
Professor of Consumer Economics and Finance at the University of Rhode Island
in the U.S.. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Family and Economic
Issues and the Editor-in-Chief of a
book series entitled International Series
of Consumer Science, which are published by Springer, one of the largest
academic publishers in the world. He has been conducting research on consumer
financial behavior in the past 20 years using data from Surveys of Consumer
Finances and other data sets. He has published his research in books such as Modern Family Economics, Mathematics
of Personal Finance, and
Handbook of Consumer Finance Research, and papers in Journal of Business Research, Journal of
Consumer Affairs, Journal of Family and Economic Issues, Social Indicators
Research, etc. His research papers received several national awards
including the best financial planning paper award given by ACCI and Certified
Financial Planner (CFP) Standard Board for twice. He presented his research for
policy makers in the Capital Hill and U.S. Department of Treasury in
Washington D. C.. His research received support from U.S. Departments of Agriculture,
Labor, and Transportation, CFP Standard Board, National Endowment on
Financial Education, etc. He is on the board of National Consumer League and served
as the President of American Council on Consumer Interests (ACCI), the
President of Asian Consumer and Family Economics Association (ACFEA), among
others. He is the visiting professor at several universities in China and Japan.
He received his B. S. and M. S. in economics from the Zhongnan University of
Economics and Law in China, and Ph.D. in consumer economics from the Oregon
State University in the U.S.. In 2005-07, he was the inaugural Take Charge
America Endowed Chair Professor and Director of the Take Charge America
Institute for Consumer Financial Education and Research at the University of
