COURSE INFORMATION:
1. Learning Contract - The signed, partially completed contract (all except the learning objectives) is due the first day of class. The completed contract, with the learning objectives identified, is due the third class period. No exceptions to these deadlines will be accepted.
2. Leaning Objectives- These are expectations that each of you hope you gain from the field experience. Think of skills and knowledge you want to gain and/or improve; contacts you want to make; and application of abilities you already have. They ought to be written in such a manner that at the end of the semester one can measure the level of achievement related to the objectives.
3. Time Sheets- Forms to record the hours spent at the field experience site will be distributed. Please recall that you need to plan on spending an average of 8 hours per week for the semester for a total of 112 hours for taking one internship course, HDF477. If you decide to take two internship courses, HDF477 and HDF478 together, the hours should be doubled. Hours are to be recorded on the sheets, signed by the field supervisor and turned in each class meeting.
4. Journal - You are to keep a journal or log that will be due twice during the semester, mid-semester and at the end of the semester. For the first part of the semester the log will include the following:
(1) Daily entries (for each time you are at your experience), dated, covering what you did, reactions to these experiences, who you met, what you learned, what you found interesting and not interesting.
(2) Four (4) readings related to aspects of the field experience and for each, a short summary of the information from the article, booklet, or pamphlet and complete documentation.
(3) Summary of the experience at mid-point.
For the second part of the semester the journal (log) will include the following:
(1) A short date entry for each day (one or two sentences) explaining what you did.
(2) Four (4) additional readings using the same format as presented in the first part of the semester.
(3) Evaluation of the functions of the agency in regards to contributions they make to consumers' well being. How successful the agency is in fulfilling its objectives, and an overview of what you learned through this experience.
5. Grading - Even though this course has a grade of S/U, each assignment will be graded and a grade of C or better is needed to receive a S grade. All written assignments are due on time and will only be accepted on the due date. An assignment not turned in on time will be a failure (zero).
6. Field Experience - Please see me at once if you are having a problem in reference to your internship or are finding it not to be what was decided upon between you and your field placement supervisor. Use the opportunity to assess if this type of professional work would be something you would like to pursue after you graduate or discover that it is not something you want to do professionally.
7. Abstract Format -
(a) Complete documentation.
(b) Summary of information from the
source (Article, booklet).
(c) Reflection of how the information from
the reading applies to your field experience.
8. Career Services - Attend two career services programs and write a short summary as to how the information presented can be used by you.
9. Resume - Have a draft of your resume to turn in on the week next to the final week.
