HSS Living & Learning Community

Welcome Letter

Dear Butterfield Hall Resident,

Welcome to the Human Science and Services (HSS) Living & Learning Community (LLC)! The HSS LLC is a unique living environment designed for those of you who want to connect with like-minded peers. It is a great way to make friends and become involved in what can feel like a large campus.

Did you have a favorite teacher in high school - someone you consider a mentor? Since universities are so much larger than high school, it is a bit more challenging to make connections with professors. Making such connections with URI faculty won't happen by accident! We hope you will take advantage of HSS LLC opportunities and connect with faculty who may turn out to be your favorite URI professor, your mentor, or someone to give the best job reference you ever had!

Faculty who engage in LLC programs do so voluntarily. They come because they are interested in getting to know you! So please join us! We invite you to be fully engaged in the LLC. Your Living & Learning experience will be what you make of it! So, get involved! Come to events. Didn't request to live in the LLC? Please join us anyway! Everyone is welcome.

Major Specific Events
Each of the majors in HSS will host specific events for their students! Keep an eye out for events such as the first meeting of the Human Development and Family Studies club, the info session for prospective Education majors, etc.

Floor and Building Events
Your RAs and RAM will also let you know about fantastic weekly and monthly events. Get to know your RA and HSS Resident Academic Mentor (RAM). They are incredibly helpful resources!

We are open to planning events that you are interested in. So, let us know what kinds of programs you would like to see and we will do our best to make them happen!

Keep Connected - Look for our group on Facebook called "HSS LLC"

Sincerely,

Lori Ciccomascolo, Interim Dean, College of Human Science and Services
Anne Seitsinger, Interim Associate Dean, College of Human Science and Services
