Overview
This specialization prepares students to analyze physical activity, exercise, and sport in a physiological context, with an emphasis on basic science courses. Students are trained to assess, design, and implement exercise programs for individuals who are apparently healthy and those with controlled disease. Students learn to evaluate health behaviors and risk factors, conduct fitness assessments, write appropriate exercise prescriptions and motivate individuals to modify negative health habits. The exercise science specialization provides students with more than 25 credits in basic science courses in areas such as anatomy, chemistry, and physiology. The rigorous curriculum provides a strong foundation for advanced study in the allied health professions, including exercise physiology, cardiac rehabilitation, physical therapy, physician’s assistant, chiropractic medicine or occupational therapy.
