This program is designed for students
with a Bachelor's degree who wish to further theireducation to gain a
fundamental understanding of fashion merchandising. It is applicable to
graduates of accredited institutions who majored in a field other than fashion
merchandising. It is also designed for graduates of textiles and
apparel
programs who wish to complete 400-level fashion merchandising courses.
A bachelor's degree with a 3.0 GPA or higher is required. Applicants who do not meet the GPA requirement may enter by earning a combined score of 900 or above on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). International students must submit TOEFL scores of 550 (or 213 on the computer-based TOEFL) or higher.
To apply, complete the "Apply Yourself" online application form at www.uri.edu/gsadmis/gs_apply.html. A completed package includes application form, transcripts, two letters of reference and an application fee ($65). U.S. applicants may apply at any time prior to the beginning of either fall or spring semester. International applicants must apply by February 1 for fall semester and July 15 for spring semester.
The Department of Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design offers two bachelor of science degrees and a master of science degree. There are seven continuing full-time faculty and numerous adjunct faculty. The University has 11,000 undergraduates and 3300 graduate students. The campus is located in the historic village of Kingston in southern Rhode Island, close to scenic Newport and to ocean beaches. It is 30 miles south of Providence and within easy reach of New York City and Boston.
No financial aid is available for certificate programs.

Certificate Course List (12 credits) Students are required to successfully complete a minimum of twelve 400-level credits with an average grade of B (overall 3.00 GPA) or above. A maximum of three credits of graduate level coursework from another institution will be accepted for transfer credit. Students select from the following list of courses:
