Position Description
TITLE: Marine Research Specialist III
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (
REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator/Professor
GRADE: 9
SUPERVISES: May supervise support staff
BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform experimental and developmental work in support of major research programs. Responsible for the planning and management of significant experimental/research programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use established analytical, experimental and investigative methods and techniques, with minor modifications and adaptations.
Collect, process, monitor and analyze samples and/or data.
Maintain laboratory for conformance with research priorities.
Responsible for problem definition and solution.
Prepare and publish manuscripts containing results of research efforts.
Develop experimental procedures and techniques for resolution of unique scientific/research problems.
Assist in supervisory and administrative duties related to research programs.
Provide guidance and assistance to graduate students.
OTHER DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform additional duties as required.

AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers; word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software; laboratory equipment as specified.
ENVIRONMENTAL
CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor's degree in _________________ or related field required, with 4-5 years of relevant research support experience (as defined by the PI) and expertise in a broad or intense area of specialization required. Additional experience must include: ___________________________. Strong written and oral communication skills and strong organizational skills are required. Must be able to work at sea as needed.
