Position Description
TITLE: Marine Research Specialist V
DIVISION: Academic Affairs (
REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator/Professor
GRADE: 13
SUPERVISES: May supervise support staff
BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform experimental and developmental work in support of major research programs. Serve as a program coordinator, and liaison between the public and the University community. Have considerable responsibility for the administration and operation of major research programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Use established analytical, experimental and investigative methods and techniques, with minor modifications and adaptations.
Collect, process, monitor and analyze samples and/or data.
Maintain laboratory for conformance with research priorities.
Responsible for problem definition and solution.
Prepare and publish manuscripts containing results of research efforts.
Develop experimental procedures and techniques for resolution of unique scientific/research problems.
Supervise and administer duties related to research programs.
Provide guidance and assistance to graduate students.
Plan, coordinate, organize and conduct workshops and conferences.
Represent the department and the University at professional gatherings.
Prepare, including researching, writing and editing materials for publication, and, as appropriate, for release to the media.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform additional duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS
AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers; word processing, database management, and spreadsheet software; laboratory equipment as specified.
ENVIRONMENTAL
CONDITIONS:
This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A master's degree in _________________ or related field required, with at least four years of relevant research support experience (as defined by the PI), and expertise in a broad or intense area of specialization required, or a Ph.D. Additional experience must include __________________________. Strong written and oral communication skills and strong organizational skills are required. Must be able to work at sea as needed.
