Position Description
TITLE: Technician (Ice Rink)
DIVISION: Business & Finance
REPORTS TO: Coordinator, Boss Ice Arena Facility
GRADE: 6
SUPERVISES: Students
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under direct supervision, maintain operating condition of the ice resurfacing equipment and Zamboni and maintain proper skating quality of the Boss Ice Rink sheet, and be responsible for the overall cleaning of the facility. May be required to shovel snow and de-ice entrances and walks during snow storms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate the Zamboni to maintain the ice sheet. Zamboni responsibilities include changing the fuel tanks, changing the blades (as necessary), and emptying the holding tank.
Undertake the necessary preparations for each resurfacing.
Use edging equipment to maintain ice quality. Chop ice prior to edging.
Dispense locker room keys to authorized hockey groups. Clean and inspect the locker room after each use.
Sweep bleachers, player benches, and skate changing areas. Mop areas as needed.
Maintain the cleanliness of the dasher boards and rink glass.
Shovel sidewalks during snowstorms.
Responsible for removing all trash accumulated during the shift, and disposing of it in the dumpster.
Report all accidents and/or incidents to the Facility Coordinator.

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: High school diploma; driver’s license (may be required to operate other university vehicles); knowledge of, and experience in, maintaining an ice rink facility, including maintaining/utilizing ice re-surfacing equipment; strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
