Contact the State COBRA office at with any questions regarding COBRA, or for participation for yourself or a dependent.

The COBRA office will send notice to an employee upon termination, if the employee is eligible for this benefit. However, an employee must contact the State COBRA office if their dependent child loses coverage and wants to purchase health coverage through COBRA.

If a URI employee's hours are reduced and she/he wants to purchase COBRA contact the COBRA office.  However, if the employee wants to pay for their coverage through payroll deduction, please contact Pamela Sherman at 874-9054.

New - effective June 28, 2006 for Domestic Partners
A law was enacted on June 28, 2006, that requires the state to offer COBRA extended health insurance to domestic partners and to provide Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) benefits for care of domestic partners.

Therefore, effective June 28, 2006, COBRA continuation coverage will be offered to domestic partners of employees and job protection rights for leaves to care for family members granted pursuant to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) will be applicable to domestic partners of state employees.
