CLASS TITLE: BUILDING SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN
CLASS DEFINITION:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
On an assigned shift to assist the building engineer and other physical plant supervisory personnel in the effective operation of building systems and to do related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of a superior with latitude for the exercise of independent judgement. Work is reviewed upon completion.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Supervises the work of subordinates, assigned as needed, engaged in tasks involved in the operation, maintenance is reviewed and repair of equipment.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
On an assigned shift operate, monitor and as necessary, make adjustments to building systems, such as HVAC, lighting security, fire suppression.
As assigned, to install, inspect, maintain, alter and repair building automation, HVAC and other systems such as lighting security, fire suppression, plumbing, electrical and emergency generators.
To inspect, maintain, later and/or repair equipment and components such as plumbing fixtures, walls plugs, lighting equipment, fans, motors, chillers and heat pumps.
As assigned to conduct field inspections and surveys for the gathering of facts and data relative to faculity management such as energy use, water use and air quality; and to give such data to superiors for their use in developing and improving facility management.
To assist a superior in administering an established program to converse energy within the agency through effective management of energy use and improvement of facilities.
To do related work as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES:
An ability to evaluate, develop and modify required programs, graphics and schedules as they pertain to various building automation systems; a working knowledge of the principles and practices of drafting and mechanical drawing and an ability to read blueprints and specifications; an ability to conduct field inspections and surveys, and gather and comprehend relevant facts and data to be used in evaluating effective building operations; a working knowledge of the operation of fmechanical equipment and building systems and the ability to maintain and repair such equipment and systems; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION:
Such as may have been gained through graduation from a senior high school; and
EXPERIENCE:
Such as may have been gained through employment in building and plant maintenance and operation.
OR: any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician's certificate.
