CLASS TITLE:                    SENIOR BUILDING CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR

CLASS DEFINITION:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

To be responsible for and to supervise the work of subordinates engaged in inspection of building construction projects on state owned buildings to insure work has been properly performed thereon and is in accordance with plans and specifications.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General work plan is established by, and important decisions are made in conference with a superior.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Reviews work of subordinates in process and upon completion.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

To be responsible for the inspection of all work performed and all materials used by contractors on state building construction and repair projects to assure adherence to plans and specifications.

To plan, assign and review the work of Building Construction Inspectors. 

To give initial approval to vouchers as presented for payment of work completed by contractors

To inform and advise a superior of apparent nonconformance to contract specifications.

To make final inspection of completed building projects to assure adherence to plans, specifications and contracts before final payment is made, and to make written and oral reports on findings.

In accordance with instructions of a superior, to confer with the architects and contractors as to interpretation of plans and specifications.

To do related work as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES:

A thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of building construction and repair; a thorough knowledge of materials used; skill in interpretation and application of construction plans and specifications; the ability to understand and apply the recommendations of an architect; the ability to prepare written reports; and related capacities and abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

EDUCATION:

Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a senior high school.

EXPERIENCE:

Such as may have been gained through employment in a responsible position involved with the inspection of building construction and materials.

Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
