CLASS TITLE: SENIOR X-RAY TECHNOLOGIST
CLASS DEFINITION:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
To operate stationary and/or mobile x-ray units for the purpose of taking radiographs of various parts of the body; upon request of a physician, to perform the more difficult x-ray assignments; and to do related work as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the administration and/or technical direction of a member of the medical staff from whom assignments and instructions are received; work is reviewed upon completion for proper techniques and conformance to instructions and established policies and procedures.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Assigns, supervises and reviews the work of subordinate technologists, clerical or attendant help assigned to assist.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
To be responsible for the general operation of an x-ray unit.
To operate stationary and/or mobile x-ray units for the purpose of taking radiographs of various parts of the body.
To perform the more difficult x-ray assignments.
To instruct and properly position patients to be x-rayed.
To develop films for use by radiologist or staff physicians for diagnosis.
To insure that adequate supplies of film and solutions are available at all times.
To assemble and mark films for proper identification, for use in medical conferences and for filing.
To attend seminars, conferences, lectures and related events in the interest of continuing education in the field of x-ray technology.
To assist a radiologist in fluoroscopic work.
To keep records and individual case folders on all patients receiving x-ray services.
To do related work as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES:
A thorough knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures used in the operation of x-ray units and skill in the operation of same; a thorough knowledge of the methods of x-ray film processing and developing and the ability to process such films; a working knowledge of the human anatomy sufficient to provide a broad understanding of the techniques, positions and methods of exposure required to obtain specified results; the ability to supervise subordinate technologists, clerical or attendant help assigned to assist; the ability to deal effectively with patients, employees and other staff members; the ability to keep records; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION:
Such as may have been gained through completion of twelve school grades supplemented by an approved course in x-ray technology; and
EXPERIENCE:
Such as may have been gained through employment as a certified x-ray technologist.
OR: any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
At time of appointment must be a Registered X-ray Technologist, certified as same by the American Registry of X-ray Technologists.
