Alumni Reunion and Dr. Grandin Retirement Celebrations
June 5, 2010 proved to be a fun but emotional day for the IEP. A BBQ outside the IEP quarters on URI's campus brought over 250 alumni, professors and staff under a high-top tent for food and reminiscing. Later that evening on the beaches of Narragansett Dr. John Grandin was fondly remembered for his tireless work in building the IEP to what it is today. A classy send-off to a great man.
Spring 2010 Commencement provided sunny skies and smiling faces on URI's campus. The IEP staff are very proud of the graduates, and thrilled at their future prospects: full ride to the PhD engineering program at Purdue University, masters program at MIT, and others starting off with well-paying jobs in the engineering field. Congratulations to all!
URI Alumni Reunion in Germany
On June 13, 2009 the first-ever URI Alumni event was held in Braunschweig, Germany our IEP partner institution, the Technical University of Braunschweig. Sixty-eight alumni and former exchange students were in attendance, as well as URI President Robert L. Carothers, Deans Winifred Brownell and Raymond Wright, and IEP Executive Director John Grandin.
In December 2006, the IEP took over the former Chi Phi Fraternity building adjacent to the IEP House. The house was in very bad repair and needed extensive renovations. Thanks to help from several donors, especially IEP Board Chair Heidi Kirk Duffy, the Texas Instruments Corporation, ZF Friedrichshafen AG, the Max Kade Foundation, and the Boxer family, the house was entirely rebuilt between December 2006 and September 2007. The pictures will take you through the renovation process, from the date of possession until the move-in for the fall semester 2007. The TI House is home for 37 IEP students as well as the offices of the Director and Associate Director of the program.
