Wen Xiong is a Hanban Visiting Assistant Professor of Chinese.  She joins us from LaTrobe University in Melbourne, Australia, where she completed her Ph.D. dissertation in the area of teaching and learning of Chinese as a foreign language.  While pursuing her doctorate, she also taught Chinese language and culture at La Trobe University, Monash University, RMIT, University of Victory Technology, and Deakin University.  Prior to her time in Melbourne, Wen served as Associate Professor of Chinese Language and Literature and as Director of the Center for Teaching & Researching Chinese as a Second Language at Shanghai University.  She was also a Visiting Scholar & Co-research Fellow at the University of Technology of Sydney in Australia and spent two years teaching at the National University of Laos. 

Ms. Xiong's research interests focus on the learning and teaching of Chinese as a second or foreign language, the acquisition of Chinese language and culture

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
