November 1-3, 2001
Workshops: Pre-and Post-Conference. The faculty of the URI International Engineering Program will sponsor two pre-conference workshops on Thursday afternoon, November 1, and two post-conference workshops on Sunday morning, November 3. The topics will be Teaching Foreign Languages to Engineers, Building an International Internship Program, and Grant Writing/Fund Raising. 

Pre-Conference Workshops will be held from 12:00 – 4:30 PM on November 1 in our conference hotel, the Crowne Plaza in Warwick, Rhode Island.  (Shuttle transportation from the airport to the hotel is also provided.)

  • 01: Teaching Foreign Languages to Engineering Students: Offered by Dr. Damon Rarick and Dr. Walter von Reinhart, University of Rhode Island
  • 02: Building an Internship Program: Offered by faculty from the University of Rhode Island, MIT, Rice University and the University of Cincinnati

Post-Conference Workshops will be held Sunday morning from 8:00 – 12:00 on November 4 in the conference hotel

  • 03: Grant Writing and Fund Raising: Offered by faculty at institutions with a track record of success in obtaining extramural funds in support of international engineering projects.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
