Dr. Beate Rattay-Förstl (M.A., PhD RWTH Aachen), Director of the Centre of International Affairs at the Technische Universität München (TUM), is responsible for international programs and co-operation. Her team is active in the field of international exchange programmes, European mobility and research programmes, language teaching. She developed the international summer school-programme at the TUM, supervised the structuring of the information and the international service, the alumni and career service, and language teaching programs with emphasis on technical language and intercultural communication. In 2000 she joined TUM from the Department of Education, Central Institute of Education, and Central Institute of Further Education, Baden-Württemberg. Prior to that she was deputy director of the Academic Exchange Office of University of Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg.
Dr. Rattay-Förstl began her career in research and teaching at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and the Universität Bamberg. She also taught German Language and Literature abroad at the Université de Picardie à Amiens, France and UWA, Perth, Australia. Her prior fields of research were German literature and cultural communication, further education and international education. Dr. Rattay-Förstl completed her studies at RWTH Aachen, Universität Zürich, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
