Dr. Cheryl Matherly is Assistant Dean of Students for Career Services, Scholarships and Fellowships at Rice University in Houston, TX. She has taught several classes for Rice students and members of the Houston community on career choice, and most recently served as a consultant to the nationally distributed telecourse "Career Advantage." Her special interest is the impact of globalization on the workplace. Cheryl currently directs the Rice International Internship Program through which students are placed in internships with employers in Europe. She was selected for the Fulbright Seminar for Administrators in International Education in order to study issues in German higher education. Cheryl co-authored the book How to Get a Job in Europe and has presented several workshops at national conferences on globalization of the workplace. Cheryl has a BA in English and Political Science from the University of New Mexico, an MS in Education from Indiana University, and an Ed.D. from the University of Houston.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
