Melissa
Eljamal
coordinates International Programs in Engineering (IPE)
at the University of Michigan's College of Engineering. IPE
offerings include two academic programs: the Engineering Global
Leadership Honors Program and the Program in Global Engineering,
as well as study and work abroad.
Melissa holds a B.A. in German and Literary Studies from
Middlebury College and an M.A. in Higher Education
Administration from the University of Michigan. Her background
in international education includes employment at a German
professional exchange agency, teaching ESL and German, and
advising international students and developing programming at
the University of Michigan's International Center and
Engineering Research Center.
Recent grants include: DAAD-GIST grant (German-American
Initiative for Students in Science and Technology) 2003-2005,
and UMichigan Global Intercultural Experience for
Undergraduates, in which 6-10 young undergraduates undertake a
brief summer overseas research project with a faculty member.
Melissa also recently chaired a panel presentation
"Overcoming the Fear of the Foreign: Marketing Study Abroad to
Underrepresented Faces and Non-Traditional Places" at CIEE's
Annual Meeting in 2002.
