Norbert
Hedderich (Ph.D., Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana) is
an Associate Professor of German. He completed his doctoral work in
the area of foreign language methodology with minors German
linguistics and educational technology in 1991. Since then he has
been teaching at the University of Rhode Island. He teaches all
levels of undergraduate German courses, including beginning and
intermediate courses. At the upper levels he has been teaching
courses on the history and present-day varieties of the German
language as well as a course on business German. He also is serving
as President of the Rhode Island Chapter of the
American Association of
Teachers of German (AATG)
His scholarly activities focus on the areas of
Language for Special Purposes, educational technology and the
teaching of German. He has published articles in
Die
Unterrichtspraxis,
The Journal of Language for International Business (JOLIB
at Thunderbird), and
Global Business Languages, has published numerous book
reviews and has served as manuscript reviewer for the
Modern
Language Journal. Inspired by the University of Rhode
Island's extensive internship and study abroad program in Germany
both of which are part of the International Engineering Program and
the Business Language Program, he is now working on intercultural
communication and training issues.
He spends his summers as Director of the
Deutsche
Sommerschule am Atlantik, a German immersion program,
offered annually at the University of Rhode Island.
