Isabel Parra

Isabel ParraIsabel Parra, a native of Chile, is an Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Cincinnati-Clermont College. She teaches Spanish language and Hispanic Culture courses, and she is currently the Academic Coordinator for Foreign Languages in her Division.

She earned a Doctorate of Education with concentrations in Literacy/TESL from the University of Cincinnati. Her dissertation was written about oral proficiency testing and language progress over time. For this work, she was nominated for the Garvin Award and she was named Outstanding Doctoral Student, Literacy Program from the College of Education, U.C. Prior to her doctoral studies, Professor Parra earned a M.A. in Spanish from U.C. and her B.A. in English Pedagogy from the University of Chile.

Professor Parra began working with the University of Cincinnati’s International Coop Program the first year Spanish was offered. She has remained affiliated with the program since then, designing the curriculum and instructing classes.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
