Friedemann Weidauer

Friedemann Johannes Weidauer, Associate Professor of German, teaches at the University of Connecticut where he directs the EUROTECH program, a dual degree program leading to a BS in Engineering and a BA in German Studies that includes a six months work period in Germany. His most recent publication related to the topic of this colloquium is the article "Educating Engineers for the Global Market: Challenges and Solutions," The Journal of Language in International Business (12:1) 2001: 37-50. Prior to his position at the University of Connecticut, he taught at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1993-98).

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
