The purpose of the Rhode Island colloquium is to provide
engineering and language educators, international program
administrators, deans, provosts, presidents, corporate leaders,
as well as public sector representatives a forum for discussing
and sharing ideas and practices pertaining to the education of
American engineers for today's global workplace.
The Sixth Annual Colloquium will include sessions dealing
with the following issues, based on the experiences of
colleagues at institutions throughout the country:
- Best Practices: International Engineering at _________.
- Evaluating Study and Work Abroad Programs
- Short-Term Programs Abroad for Engineers
- Credit Transfer Evaluations for Engineering Exchanges
- Building Programs through Partnerships
- Engineering Needs in the Global Workplace
- Global Engineering Education: The Role of the Public
Sector
- Language Programs for Students of Engineering
- The Message(s) from our Students
- International Engineering Programs: Recruitment and
Retention
The colloquium was founded six years ago by the faculty of
the University of Rhode Island's International Engineering
Program with the support of a grant from the U.S. Department of
Education (FIPSE). With significant growth in attendance each
year and the enthusiastic encouragement of colleagues from many
other institutions and both corporate and public sector support,
a one-time event has now evolved into an annual conference.
We hope you will join us this year for the
October 23-26 meeting
