Franz Futterknecht

Franz O. Futterknecht is currently professor of German in the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Florida.  Previously he has held positions at the University of Mannheim, Germany, University of Waterloo, Canada and the University of Swansea in Great Britain.  He is the co-founder and director of the Mannheim Summer Program and initiated the exchange program between the Universities of Mannheim and Florida.  He directs the Deutsche Sommerschule im Südosten at the University of Mannheim and is co-ordinator of the German language courses for engineering students participating in the UF-Siemens Program.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
