Thomas K. Jewell

Thomas K. Jewell, Union College
Thomas K. Jewell is the Carl B. Jansen Professor and Chair of the Civil Engineering Program at Union College. He is also Director of International Programs for the engineering and computer science division of the College. Over the past five years, Union has sent 88% of its engineering graduates abroad for some type of international experience. Tom was instrumental in developing the mini-term program at Union, and had led student groups to Australia, New Zealand, and Spain. Recently he has been working to increase Union’s engineering exchange programs by developing relationships with universities in France, Germany, and Mexico. He has published numerous technical papers and two text books.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
