As in previous years, the faculty of the URI International Engineering Program, along with several colleagues from other institutions, will sponsor two pre-conference workshops beginning with lunch on Thursday afternoon, September 30, and two post-conference workshops on Sunday morning, October 3.  The topics this year will be:

Pre-Conference Workshops
Thursday, September 30, 2004 (12:00 PM - 5:00 PM)

  • Teaching Cross-Cultural Communication
  • Preparing Engineers to Work in the Developing World

Post-Conference Workshops
Sunday, October 3, 2004 (8:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

  • International Engineering Programs--Getting Started
  • Teaching Languages to Engineers

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
