John
M. Grandin is professor of German and director of the
International Engineering Program at the University of Rhode
Island, a double-degree option leading simultaneously to the BS
in one of the engineering disciplines and the BA with a major in
German, French, or Spanish. Grandin has competed successfully
for several major grants supporting international engineering
efforts at the University of Rhode Island, has published
numerous articles on the subject, and is founder and organizer
of the Annual Colloquium on International Engineering Education
held in Rhode Island each fall. Grandin is a recipient of the
Federal Cross of Honor from the German government, the
Outstanding Educator Award from the American Association of
Teachers of German and the ABET Educational Innovation Award,
all pertaining to his efforts to internationalize engineering
education. In a prior life, Grandin authored several articles
and a book on Franz Kafka.
