  Getting Started Workshop

As a Special Opportunity for Newcomers (and old-timers too), the 2006 Colloquium will offer a no-additional-cost pre-conference workshop to all registered participants. The Getting Started Workshop is designed to bring the wisdom and experience of established international engineering programs to those seeking to launch new initiatives. What are the realistic models? What are the challenges and hurdles? What are the best strategies for success? How does one build an internship program? Or a study abroad exchange? How can we make it work?

When : Thursday afternoon, November 2, from 1:00 – 5:00

Where : At the conference hotel

Why: By means of this workshop, we hope to avoid repetition of items covered in the past during the main conference. Our goal is to cover the basics in a pre-conference setting, to enable us to deal with newer issues during the Friday and Saturday sessions.

Presenters : Faculty and staff from the University of Cincinnati, WPI, the University of Rhode Island, MIT, Georgia Tech, Hochschule Bremen, Purdue University.

Attendees : Any registered conference participant may attend this workshop. But, pre-registration for the workshop is required.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
