Michael
T. Byrnes , was
most recently the President for
Tyco International, China. In
this position, he was responsible for establishing Tyco’s
corporate presence in China and for promoting Tyco’s multi-faceted
business capabilities and diverse business interests in the
growing China market. Tyco is the largest American company
in China with 32,000 employees and more than 40 operational
units.
Before
joining Tyco, he worked at Rockwell Automation as Vice President
for China Operations. He reported directly to the President
and COO of Rockwell Automation and was
responsible for all of
Rockwell Automation operations in China to include strategic
direction, new market development, strategic sourcing, manufacturing
operations, research and development activities and establishing
and coordinating country wide shared services. Byrnes implemented
a comprehensive government relations plan at the national,
provincial and municipal levels that focused on enhancing
buying influence, administrative and organizational facilitation
and regulatory monitoring and shaping.
Mr.
Byrnes, a native of Bristol, Rhode Island, attended local
schools and received a BA Degree from Providence College in
1967. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an Officer in
the US Army. He served
in US Army for more than 30 years.
From 1991 through 1997 he was assigned to the US Embassy in
Beijing, China as the Defense Attaché to both China and Mongolia.
Mr. Byrnes was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in
1994 and he was selected for promotion to Major General in
1997. He retired from the US Army on 1 January 1998.
Mr.
Byrnes attended the University of New Hampshire, graduating
with a Master's Degree in International Relations.
H e also
attended the US Naval War
College graduating with a Master's Degree in National Security
Studies.
Mr.
Byrnes was active in community affairs was a Board
Member of the Beijing
American Chamber of Commerce and a Executive Steering Council
member of the Quality Brands Protection Committee (QBPC),
the premier intellectual property protection association in
China, representing 140 multinational companies. He is on
the boards of several US invested enterprises in China ,
as well as several Chinese
enterprises.
