Dr. Matthias Afting
 

Matthias Afting

Dr. Matthias Afting was born in Freiburg/i.Br. in 1969. He studied medicine at University of Saarland in Homburg/Saar and University René Descartes in Paris, France from 1989 to 1996. He finished his studies with a M.D. thesis about “Characterization of env-gene region in human endogenous retrovirus HERV K10” in 1996. Dr. Matthias Afting was funded by the “Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes” from 1991 to 1996.

From 1996 to 1998 Dr. Matthias Afting worked as an intern at the Hospital of Freiburg University in the department of Haematology and Oncology. In 1998 he joined Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA as research fellow with the focus on gene therapy and immunology.

In 2000 Dr. Matthias Afting started as consultant at McKinsey & Company, Munich, focusing on projects in life science and travel/logistic. He was elected Engagement Manager (project leader) in October 2003 and Associate Principal (Associate Partner) in January 2006.

In April 2006 Dr. Matthias Afting joined Deutsche Bahn AG as head of HR strategy and development. He is a member of the global HR leadership team.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
