Lars Erickson
 

Lars Erickson

Lars Erickson is the director of the French International Engineering Program (IEP) and associate professor of French at the University of Rhode Island. As director of the French IEP, he was responsible for the signing of the exchange agreement between URI and the Université de Technologie de Compiègne. He also handles industrial relations relating to the IEP and has negotiated internship placement with French companies including Total, Renault, Saint Gobain, and STMicroelectronics. Dr. Erickson's research interests include the relationship between science and literature, eighteenth-century literature and culture, and the history of technical education in France. His current research project involves the role of nationalism and internationalization in French engineering education. He has published one book and has articles published and forthcoming in journals such as The French Review, Symposium, Romance Notes, and Confluencia.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
