Damon O. Rarick is an assistant professor of German at the University of Rhode Island, where he teaches in the International Engineering Program. He recently received the university's Excellence in Teaching Award and his third-year German for Engineering course was designated as one of the top ten German courses in the United States by the Educational Policy Improvement Center, whose Advanced Placement Best Practices Course Study in World Languages helps shape College Board exams and, by extension, high school preparation courses. He currently serves on both the Steering Committee and the Executive Council of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG), chairs the national committee on German for Professional Purposes, and is the founding editor of the Online Journal for Global Engineering Education, a unique peer-reviewed research outlet for the cross-disciplinary and corporate constituencies involved in creating, maintaining, and growing global engineering education programs.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
