Kent Rissmiller
 

Kent Rissmiller

Kent Rissmiller is Associate Dean of Interdisciplinary and Global Studies at Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he also teaches law and politics in the Department of Social Science and Policy Studies. Since coming to WPI in 1988, Professor Rissmiller has been involved in the development and growth of the Global Perspective Program at WPI. The program sends over 400 students off campus and around the globe yearly to complete WPI's junior year, interactive project requirement. He has advised over 100 projects since coming to WPI in 1988, including projects that have involved students in legal studies and in survey and interview research in Worcester, London, Zurich, Washington, San Juan, Puerto Rico and San Jose, Costa Rica. As Associate Dean, he supervises WPI's coursework for preparing students to study abroad and is also responsible for assessment of their projects with regard to WPI's learning outcomes. He serves or has served on numerous committees including strategic planning, academic policy and WPI's Institutional Research Board. Professor Rissmiller holds a PhD in political science from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and a JD from Pierce Law, where he serves on an advisory board.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
