Matt Deschner
Matt Deschner, Purdue GEARE Undergraduate Student
Matt is currently a senior at Purdue University majoring in Mechanical Engineering with minors in Global Engineering Studies and Mandarin Chinese. As a freshman Matt applied and was admitted into the GEARE (Global Engineering Alliance for Research and Education) program, which incorporates foreign language study, engineering coursework abroad at a foreign University, and an internship abroad in the same country.
During his time at Purdue University he has spent a total of 9 months abroad in China, along with two years domestic Mandarin language study. This consisted of two months at Peking University in Beijing studying intensive spoken and written Mandarin Chinese, a semester at Shanghai Jiao Tong University doing engineering coursework, and an internship abroad in Suzhou, China, with Emerson Climate Technologies.
At Purdue Matt has gotten involved on campus by being a Host and Publicity Officer for the Old Masters Program, which welcomes distinguished Purdue Alumni back to the campus to inspire current students. He has also served on the Academics Committee of his Fraternity, been a member of the Purdue Men's Lacrosse team, and has participated in independent leadership events like the Mortar Board Leadership Conference and International Management Seminars.
Matt intends to bring his international experience within the engineering field to an international career in the biomedical industry, and is also considering graduate studies.
