Mark Rectanus

Mark W. Rectanus is Professor of German and Chair, Department of World Languages and Cultures at Iowa State University. He also serves as Director of the Languages and Cultures for Professions (LCP) program with Co-Director, Chad Gasta (Associate Professor of Spanish). The LCP initiative is a second-major option for students majoring in the Colleges of Engineering and Business. As part of the LCP program, he also leads a course on "Technology, Globalization, and Culture" with Professor James Bernard, Anson Marston Distinguished Professor of Engineering. Rectanus teaches courses on German for business and professions, contemporary German society and culture, and German film and media studies. His research includes numerous articles and books on the German publishing industry, media, and the changing role of the book medium. His book, Culture Incorporated: Museums, Artists, and Corporate Sponsorships , has been the topic of interviews on National Public Radio and the Osgood File on CBS Radio. Rectanus has also held an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship.
