Scenes from International Engineering

Jessica Thompson received her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2009 from Purdue University. While at Purdue, she went to Germany as part of the Global Engineering Alliance for Research and Education (GEARE) program. During the exchange, she completed an internship at Alkor GmbH Kunststoffe in Munich and a semester at KIT, Universität Karlsruhe. Upon graduation she accepted a job at L'Oreal as a product engineer for new equipment purchases at their manufacturing plant in Florence, KY. She managed specifications, layouts, testing, and installation of packaging equipment. Part of her responsibilities included Factory Acceptance Tests of equipment, where she went to France, Italy, and Sweden to approve performance testing of purchased equipment before it was shipped to the United States. Now, she works in product development at the L'Oreal headquarters in New York, NY. She manages new product launches from marketing conception, through manufacturing, and finally to the shelf. Outside of work, she has stayed active in German culture and language exchanges in the cities where she has lived and worked.
