Scenes from International Engineering

Tom Hope is an advisor to the International Office of Tokyo Institute of Technology, working on international exchange partnerships and international public relations.

In addition to teaching domestic and international students on the social aspects of science and engineering, since 2011 he has helped coordinate Tokyo Tech's "Japan-Asia Young Scientist and Engineer Study Visit" (JAYSES) program, which brings together young researchers from multiple countries in Asia for a short term study visit. His personal approach to internationalization at Tokyo Tech is student-centered with a firm grounding in interdisciplinary interaction, especially important in the Japanese study environment.

Prior to his position at Tokyo Tech, Tom conducted research in the field of Human-Computer Interaction at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and the Research Institute for Science and Society (RISTEX), both in Japan, after gaining his doctorate in Sociology at the Univeristy of York, UK.
