Jim Trent is the External Relations Manager for Brigham Young University's (BYU) Department of Mechanical Engineering. His responsibilities at BYU include growing and managing industry relationships, including increasing international Capstone project opportunities for students and faculty. He works with industry partners to recruit and fund 32 engineering Capstone projects each year. Prior to joining BYU, Jim worked as a manufacturing engineer for Compaq Computer Corporation specializing in world-wide facilities environmental waste reduction. Jim was co-founder of Wolf Electronix Corporation in 1996, an electronics manufacturing services company, and was President through 2008. He grew Wolf Electronix from startup to $20M in revenue. In 2002, his business was awarded the fastest growing company in Utah and was No. 164 in the nation on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest growing companies. He sold the company to a large electronics manufacturer in 2008. Most recently Jim was employed as Vice President and General Manager for Computrol prior to coming to BYU in 2011. He has lived in various locations within the United Kingdom and has also traveled extensively throughout Asia working with manufacturing companies. Jim completed a Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology at BYU and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.
