Karl Zimmer has been Vice President of Supply Chain, Rest of World, for General Cable Corporation since August 2011. He is currently developing and implementing a comprehensive Supply Chain strategy for the division to drive improvements in operating efficiencies, income, and working capital throughout the $2 billion business in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Previously, he was Vice President, Sourcing & Supply Chain, North America, from October 2009. In N. America, he led the Supply Chain team in planning and scheduling, customer service performance, inventory management, logistics, customer integration, purchasing, and forecasting for businesses with combined revenues of over $1.5 billion.
Mr. Zimmer began his career at General Electric in 1999, after completing six quarters of co-op assignments with GE Aircraft Engines, including a six-month assignment in Munich, Germany, as part of the University of Cincinnati’s International Co-op Program. He completed GE’s Operations Management Leadership Program and became a SixSigma Blackbelt focused on order fulfillment within the Supply Chain and Services divisions of Aircraft Engines.
He joined General Cable in 2001, heading up Supply Chain for several areas before running the $30 million Assemblies business for the Company. In 2005, Mr. Zimmer was appointed as Plant Manager of the Jackson, Tennessee manufacturing facility, which employed over 300 people and manufactured primarily Category 5e Data Communications cable. Karl returned to Supply Chain in 2007 with his appointment as Vice President, a role that was expanded to include Sourcing in 2009.
Mr. Zimmer received a Bachelor’s degree in 1999 in Industrial Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio and was the recipient of the Herman Schneider Medal his senior year.
Since graduation, he has been actively involved in a wide range of activities with the University of Cincinnati. He also serves on the Board of the South Florida Council (Miami), Boy Scouts of America. Karl and his wife, Joan (a Chemical Engineering UC graduate), reside in Miami, Florida.
