Q3: But doesn’t the whole world speak English? Though English has become a common language for multinational meetings, this does not mean that Americans don’t need to have other languages and international expertise. Indeed, Americans are often handicapped by their inabilities and insensitivities regarding other languages and cultures. If we are to remain competitive as a nation, we need to be able to communicate accurately with our partners and competitors abroad.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines. IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
