Q7:  How much German do I need?

Generally speaking you will need to have completed German through the sixth-semester level. There are ways to accelerate your learning of the language, however, through programs such as URI’s Deutsche Sommerschule am Atlantik. If you are a freshman or sophomore at this point, and get started on your German right away, then you will be able to go to Braunschweig for a semester or year during your junior or senior years.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
