Robert C. Manteiga (Ph.D., University of Virginia) is a Professor of Hispanic Studies, Comparative Literature, and Film Media at the University of Rhode Island. He directs the Spanish International Engineering Program. Professor Manteiga earned his doctorate in Spanish from the University of Virginia.
In addition to his service to the IEP, Dr. Manteiga currently serves as Director of Comparative Literature Studies at the University of Rhode Island and holds a joint appointment in Film Media. He has served on the Faculty Senate on the University's Health Professionals Advisory Committee. He is the recipient of a FIPSE grant from the US Department of Education and has been awarded numerous URI Research Grants, Foundation Grants, and Enhancement of Teaching Awards.
Over the years, he has worked actively in the area of study abroad, and has been involved in the development and supervision of programs in Spain and Latin America. From 1978 to 1995 he was the University of Rhode Island's representative to the Council on International Educational Exchange, and served as Chair of the Council's Spain Policy Committee from 1991 to 1994. He is a published scholar in the fields of 20th Century Spanish Literature, Comparative Literatures and Film Studies, and has been an editor/consultant for several literary journals, including Modern Language Studies and CHOICE, the source used by all university libraries in their selection of texts.
Professor Manteiga has been successful in developing ties with international firms in Spain and Latin America, establishing internship experiences for engineering students, and initiating international exchange programs in engineering with foreign Universities.
