IEP House Statement of Purpose
April 16, 1999
The IEP House and the Texas Instruments House comprise the administrative and residential center in support of the goals and activities of URI's International Engineering Program. Known together as the Heidi Kirk Duffy Center for International Engineering Education, the two houses are home for students, from the United States and abroad, seeking to prepare themselves for leadership careers in the global workplace. The Center manifests a partnership among faculty, students, and all persons in the public and private sectors who are committed to the goals of a multicultural technical education.
The IEP and TI Houses are a model for responsible residential living, based on the philosophy that students with similar academic and career goals will be supportive of each other and benefit mutually in a common living environment. The two Houses foster cross-cultural understanding and promote tolerance and cooperation among individuals of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
A model for interaction between higher education and practitioners in the global workplace, the International Engineering Program was established in response to the needs of a changing world. The Heidi Kirk Duffy Center exemplifies the manner in which educators and members of the private sector may work together to strengthen the education of young persons preparing for an increasingly complex world.
