2002 German IEP Study Tour

May 18-June 1, 2002

  • Who? 25 IEP Students accompanied by URI German Professor Norbert Hedderich and IEP Assistant Director Kathleen Maher. Students must be currently enrolled in a German course, and committed to registering for a fall 2002 German course.

  • When? Tentatively scheduled for May 18 through June 1, 2002.

  • Why?  To visit 8-10 IEP partner companies such as Hilti, Volkswagen, TRW, ZF, BMW, SAP and Siemens, as well as the Technische Universität Braunschweig.

  • Cost?  Thanks to a subsidy from the van Meeteren Foundation, the program fee will be limited to the cost of airfare plus a service fee and is anticipated to be $800. Lodging, breakfasts and most other meals are provided. Additional on-site expenses will be limited to incidentals and some meals.

The International Engineering Program is a dual-degree program combining a B.A. in German, French and/or Spanish with a B.S. in one of the engineering disciplines.  IEP students study language and culture each semester along with their engineering curriculum. In the fourth year of the five-year program, they then go abroad as interns with engineering based firms in Europe or Latin America, and also as exchange students with one of our partner universities
