Hemoglobin is a respiratory protein present in the erythrocytes of all
vertebrates. Typically, it consists of two identical pairs of α and β
globin chains. This project is a continuation of our investigation on
snake the Leaf-Nosed Viper (E. macmahonii) hemoglobin from Pakistan. It
is being conducted with the intent to characterize and better understand
the interspecies relationships among various snakes at the protein
level. You will be using various analytical tools in your research such
as HPLC/FPLC for protein/peptide purification, MALDI-TOF mass
spectrometer to check the purity of isolated protein chains and
peptides. The amino acid sequence of α and β chain will be determined by
an automated protein sequencer. The deduced amino acid sequence of the
Viper globin chains will be aligned to other reported snake hemoglobin
sequences.
