Syntehesi of
Pharmaceutically Important Heterocycles via C-H Activation
The research in the DeBoef laboratory
focuses on the development of new methods for synthesizing important
drug scaffolds. The work employs the use of novel organometallic
catalysts that expedite the synthesis of the target molecules, thus
increasing the efficiency of the synthetic process, both in terms of
cost and environmental impact. Students who participate in these
projects will be directly involved in the invention of new chemical
reactions and will gain experience in organic synthesis techniques and
in the analysis of organic molecules by NMR and mass spectrometry,
essential skills for careers as medicinal chemists.
