RI-INBRE > Summer Research Projects

Infectious Disease
During this summer the student will be introduced to the principles of scientific research. This rotation integrates Biosafety level 2 training, hands-on laboratory instruction and research design. Over the course of the rotation, the student will assist with the design and implementation of a basic research proposal in the area of infectious diseases, specifically with the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. The research environment that the student will practice in is conducive to scholarly work. S/he should achieve the goals of the rotation which include abstract submission and poster presentation.

During the research experience, the student will become familiar with opportunities available to conduct research with the resources available at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of Rhode Island. This experience will help develop the educational background required to become successful in a career as a scientist, educator or medical professional.
