Development of
Multifunctional Anti-HIV and Anti-Cancer Agents
The purpose of this project is to develop
multifunctional anti-HIV or anticancer agents by covalently conjugating
several biologically active compounds. The hypothesis underlying this
proposal is that safe, potent, and broad-spectrum multifunctional anti-HIV
or anti-cancer agents can be designed to deliver and release different
active compounds intracellularly at the same time. Furthermore,
development of resistance to several active drugs would occur at a much
slower rate than to either compound alone. The attachment of fatty acids
in some analogs will enhance the lipophilicity and thus the cellular
uptake of these multifunctional conjugates.
